Low Risk Driving

More than car control skills... more than traffic situations...

Excel Drive's Low Risk Driving Skills make safer drivers.

Low risk driving is achieved as a result of being taught higher-order driving skills such as hazard awareness (hazard perception). It's a case of mind over muscle – a reference to developing a mindset of safe driving principles to supplement the physical control of the car. It's a case of combining the physical control (carcraft) with the higher order skills of roadcraft.

Low risk drivers are people who have a lower risk of crashing because:

  • They have well developed skills such as scanning and predicting what might happen.
  • They do not blame the road conditions, weather conditions or other drivers when they have a near miss or crash because they acknowledge their role and fault in the situation
  • They think differently to other drivers; in other words their higher order skills are superior.
  • They judge time and space very accurately.
  • They respond to hazards in plenty of time.
  • They look as far ahead as they can.
  • They scan; they use: "I can see... it might... so I will...".
  • They have the will power to stick to the road rules
  • They are skilled at noticing places where crashes happen and they understand why that situation could threaten their safety.
  • They do not put themselves in a position where they could be involved in a crash.

Excel Drive instructors are passionate about helping drivers acquire the ability to recognise and manage potential crash situations by teaching how to OBSERVE and for what, how to CONCENTRATE and on what and how to ANTICIPATE for what. Most importantly we teach far beyond registry Test Routes.
